Description The National Agricultural Sample Survey (NASS) is an annual survey conducted by the National Bureau of Statistics (NBS) in collaboration with the Federal Ministry of Agriculture and Food Security (FMAFS). It is aimed at filling the gaps that exist in agricultural data in Nigeria. The NASS provides essential data that helps in delivering insights into the agricultural sector, supporting evidence-based planning and implementation of agricultural programmes. As a key driver of economic growth in Nigeria, agriculture requires consistent, reliable, and up-to-date data. In this regard, the NASS for the 2022/2023 agricultural year was conducted to facilitate efficient policy formulation which is geared towards improving the livelihoods of large population of Nigerians involved in agricultural activities. Despite the security challenges faced by the country, the survey recorded a wide national coverage of the 36 states and FCT showcasing the potentials in crop, fisheries, livestock and forest production. It is hoped that the effective utilization of the NASS report will encourage sustainable agricultural practices, enhance agricultural production, promote food security, and foster wealth creation in Nigeria.
Abstract The National Bureau of Statistics (NBS) in collaboration with the Federal Ministry of Agriculture and Food Security (FMAFS), Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO), and the World Bank conducted the National Agricultural Sample Survey (NASS) 2022/2023 on agricultural production covering crops, livestock, fishery, and forestry activities. The survey aims to (i) provide data on agricultural production in 2022/2023 and the structure of the sector as a whole to assist the government in policy formulation and programme planning; (ii) effectively and efficiently provide appropriate agricultural information to increase public awareness; and (iii) provide data that will be used to compute agricultural sector contribution to the Gross Domestic Product (GDP).
