Abstract
Fieldwork is done solely by over 700 NBS Staff in all States of the federation supported by supervisors who are monitored by internal and external observers. Prices are collected across all the 774 local government across all the States and the FCT from 10,000 respondents and locations. It is calculated using the weight derived from household consumption expenditure on goods and services and the actual prices of goods and services collected from the field. The average of all these prices is reported for each state and the total average for the states, is the average for the country. NBS audit team subsequently conducts randomly selected verification of prices recorded.

Description Selected Food Price Watch for November 2024 shows that the average price of 1kg beans brown (sold loose) stood at N2,720.96. This indicates a rise of 224.37% in price on a year-on-year basis from N838.85 recorded in November 2023 and a drop –2.77% on a month-on-month basis from N2,798.50 in October 2024. Agric eggs medium size (12 piece) experienced significant price increases year on year by N135.74% from N1,202.18 in November of last year (2023) to N2,833.97 in November 2024. On a month-on-month basis, the average price of this item rose by 6.08% from N 2,671.60 in October 2024. There was also a notable price increase of onion bulb by 174.65% on a year-on-year basis from N683.78 in November 2023 to N1,878.00 in November 2024. On a month-on-month basis, it increased by 50.06% from N 1,251.52 in October 2024.
Furthermore, the average price of 1kg Local rice sold loose went up by 126.02% on a year-on-year basis from N867.18 in November 2023 to N1,959.98 in November 2024, while there was an increase of 0.79% on a month-on-month basis. Also, the average price of 1kg of beef boneless increased by 98.10% on a year-on-year basis from N3,029.50 in November 2023 to N6,001.32 in November 2024. On a month-on-month basis, it increased by 2.44% from N5,858.58 in October 2024.

Description Selected Food Price Watch for December 2024 shows that the average price of 1kg beans brown (sold loose) stood at N2,501.32. This indicates a rise of 187.29% in price on a year-on-year basis from N870.67 recorded in December 2023 and a drop –8.07% on a month-on-month basis from N2,720.96 in November 2024. Onion bulb 1kg experienced significant price increases year on year by N111.74% from N971.86 in December of last year (2023) to N2,057.81 in December 2024.
On a month-on-month basis, the average price of this item rose by 9.57% from N1,878.00 in November 2024. There was also a notable price increase of Palm oil 1litre by 81.18% on a year-on-year basis from N1,425.32 in December 2023 to N2,582.35 in December 2024. On a month-on-month basis, it increased by 4.68% from N2466.79 in November 2024.
Furthermore, the average price of 1kg Local rice sold loose went up by 111.82% on a year-on-year basis from N917.93 in December 2023 to N1,944.40 in December 2024, while there was a decrease of -0.79% on a month-on-month basis. Also, the average price of 1kg of beef boneless increased by 95.43% on a year-on-year basis from N3,146.94 in December 2023 to N6,150.18 in December 2024. On a month-on-month basis, it increased by 2.48% from N6,001.32 in November 2024.
